Red-and-white mosque arches, flower-filled patios and lanes beside the Guadalquivir.
- Best time
- March–May and October–November are warm and pleasant. Early May is the patio festival, when private courtyards open to visitors; July–August often pass 40°C, and winter is mild by day but chilly at night.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Madrid, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul (about 17–19 hours all in), then take the fast train to Córdoba, under 2 hours. Spain is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Córdoba was once the capital of Muslim Spain, and its Mezquita, with row after row of red-and-white arches, is one of the great buildings of the world. Around it, white lanes hide courtyards full of flowerpots.

Good to know
- Go to the Mezquita first thing, before the tour groups, or book one of its night visits.
- Halal meat is hard to find here; salmorejo without the ham, fried aubergine and fish carry you a long way.
