May–September has long days for cycling and harbour life. July–August is busiest; winter is cold, windy and dark early, though Tivoli's Christmas lights help.

Copenhagen is a city of bikes, bakeries and harbour swims, with royal palaces and canals in between. Nyhavn's coloured houses are the postcard, but the best days are spent in its neighbourhoods.

Good to know

  • Bike lanes are busy and fast; don't stand in them, and look both ways before you cross.
  • Halal is easy in Nørrebro, where shawarma and Middle Eastern restaurants line Nørrebrogade.
