chamonix
Mont Blanc views, alpine trails and winter ski slopes above a mountain town.
- Best time
- July–September has snow-free trails and the most lifts running, and January–March is ski season. November is the dead month: the big lifts, including the Aiguille du Midi, close for maintenance.
- How long
- 3–4 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Geneva, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, about 17–19 hours all in. Chamonix is about 1.5 hours by road from Geneva airport, with shuttle buses all year. France is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Chamonix is a mountain town at the foot of Mont Blanc, western Europe's highest peak, with cable cars climbing straight from the streets. Summer is for walks and views, winter for skiing.

Things to do
- Aiguille du MidiA cable car to 3,842 metres, with a glass box hanging over the drop and Mont Blanc right in front of you.Map ↗
- Montenvers and the Mer de GlaceA red rack railway up to France's biggest glacier, shrinking fast but still huge.Map ↗
- BréventCable cars up the other side of the valley, for the best face-on view of Mont Blanc.Map ↗
- Lac BlancA classic summer hike to a high lake that mirrors the Mont Blanc range.Map ↗
Good to know
- Halal choice is very limited, and tartiflette comes with bacon; Geneva has far more halal food.
- The altitude at the top of the Aiguille du Midi hits fast, so take it slowly, and go early before the cloud builds.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
