Český Krumlov is a small medieval town wrapped in tight loops of the Vltava, below a huge castle with a painted tower. It's UNESCO-listed, walkable end to end and far calmer once the day trips from Prague leave.

Good to know

  • Stay one night: the streets are a different place after the Prague day trips leave.
  • The bus station is closer to the old town than the railway station, which is up the hill.
  • Halal meat is hard to find here; trout and fruit dumplings are the easy options, or bring food from Prague.
