chemerong waterfall
One of Malaysia's tallest waterfalls, with forest pools and a steep climb inland from Dungun.
- Best time
- March to September. Terengganu's forestry department closes its eco-parks and trails for the north-east monsoon, usually from 1 November to the end of February. Pick a dry spell; the river rises fast after rain.
- How long
- 1 day
- Getting there
- About 5 hours' drive from KL on the East Coast Expressway, then inland through Al-Muktafi Billah Shah towards Pasir Raja. From Dungun it's about an hour's drive.

Deep in the forest inland from Dungun, Chemerong drops more than 250 metres down a rock face, making it one of the tallest waterfalls in Malaysia. The eco-park at the bottom has pools and picnic spots; reaching the viewpoints higher up means a steep forest climb.

Good to know
- Two people drowned in the pools in 2026. Currents are strong and the depth drops suddenly, so stay out if the water is high or murky.
- Start early. Afternoon storms are common, and the river can rise within minutes.
- Wear shoes with grip. The rocks by the falls are slippery.
