capri
Sea stacks, cliff paths and a chairlift above the Bay of Naples.
- Best time
- May–June and September–October are good for walking and boat trips. July–August is hot and packed with day-trippers; in winter the sea is rougher and many hotels and restaurants close.
- How long
- 2 days, 1 night
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Naples, usually via Istanbul or Dubai, about 16–18 hours all in. Fast ferries from Naples port reach Capri in about 50 minutes, and boats also run from Sorrento. Italy is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

A limestone island rising steeply out of the Bay of Naples, with two towns on top and sea cliffs all round. Day-trippers pack the Piazzetta by noon; stay a night and you get the quiet lanes and the evening to yourself.

Things to do
- AnacapriThe upper town, quieter than Capri town, with whitewashed lanes and the painted-tile floor of San Michele church.Map ↗
- Monte SolaroA single-seat chairlift from Anacapri to the island's highest point, with your feet dangling over gardens.Map ↗
- Giardini di AugustoTerraced gardens looking down on the Faraglioni rocks and the zigzags of Via Krupp.Map ↗

Good to know
- Ferries land at Marina Grande, at sea level; the funicular takes you up to Capri town in a few minutes.
- The Blue Grotto shuts when the sea is choppy, because boats can only slip in through its low entrance in calm water.
- Halal meat is rare on the island, but pasta, seafood and caprese cover most meals.
