cape town
Table Mountain, penguins by the sea and Cape Malay food below colourful Bo-Kaap houses.
- Best time
- November–March is warm and mostly dry, though the summer south-easter can blow hard. April and October are good too; June–August is cool and wet, and wind or cloud can stop boats and the cable car.
- How long
- 5–7 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Singapore, Dubai or Doha, about 17–22 hours all in. The airport is 20–40 minutes from the centre. South Africa is 6 hours behind KL.

Cape Town fits a flat-topped mountain, two oceans' worth of beaches and some of Africa's best food into one trip. A week goes quickly between the city, the peninsula and a few long lunches.

Good to know
- Halal is easy: Cape Town has a large Muslim community, and many takeaways, bakeries and restaurants carry halal certification, especially in Bo-Kaap and Athlone.
- Go up Table Mountain on the first clear, calm day; wind and cloud often close the cable car.
- Use Uber or a booked car at night rather than walking between neighbourhoods.
