canterbury
A medieval cathedral, timber-framed lanes and boat rides along the River Stour.
- Best time
- April–September is good for the gardens and the river, with July–August busy with day-trippers and school groups. November–February is cold and dark early, and fewer boats run, but the cathedral easily fills a day.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly direct from KL to London (about 14 hours) on Malaysia Airlines or British Airways, then take the high-speed train from St Pancras to Canterbury West, about 1 hour. The UK is 7 hours behind KL in summer and 8 in winter.

Canterbury's small walled centre is dominated by its cathedral, where Thomas Becket was murdered in 1170 and pilgrims have come ever since. Crooked timber-framed buildings line the streets, and little boats run along the River Stour.
