bukit taisho

Bahau's sunrise hill: a short climb through oil palm to a sea of clouds.

Best time
Drier spells, usually February and June to August, are best for the trail. The cloud is thickest at sunrise after a night of rain and burns off by mid-morning, and it doesn't form every day. Skip it in heavy rain, when the access roads turn to mud.
How long
Half a day
Getting there
About 2 hours' drive from KL: the North–South Expressway to Seremban, then Federal Route 51 over Bukit Putus to Kuala Pilah and on through Batu Kikir to Bahau. The trailhead is in Taman Meranti, on the edge of town.

Bukit Taisho, about 300 metres high, is a small hill on the edge of Bahau that went viral in 2017 for its sea of clouds, which hikers call the Sky Mirror. It's private land open to the public, decorated by the local hiking club, and the climb is short enough for beginners: cement steps and paths through oil palm to lookouts above the mist.

Makan

  2. Dim sumBreakfast at the dim sum places in Taman Meranti, at the foot of the hill. Like the curry mee shops, they're non-halal.Map ↗

Things to do

  1. The climbAbout 2.6 km there and back on steps, pebble paths and earth through oil palm. Most people reach the top in 30–45 minutes.Map ↗
  2. The Sky MirrorThe main lookout, where on good mornings the cloud fills the valley and the hills poke through.Map ↗
  3. Puncak Harimau and Puncak NagaA longer loop of up to 10 km, about 3 hours, via Taman Kayangan. Some stretches are overgrown, so the views come and go.Map ↗

Good to know

  • Use the main entrance on Jalan Meranti 2, not the cemetery entrance some map apps send you to. Parking is limited, so on good weekend mornings people park in Taman Meranti and walk in.
  • There's no permit or fee. Bring a headlamp and at least 1.5 litres of water each, and don't count on the drinks stall at the top.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
