Camels on Cable Beach at sunset, pearling history and red rocks at Gantheaume Point.
- Best time
- May–September is the dry season: blue skies, warm days and cool nights. December–March is hot and wet, and cyclones can cut roads and ground flights.
- How long
- 3–4 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Perth, about 9–11 hours all in. The airport is right in town, about 10 minutes from Cable Beach. Western Australia is on the same time as KL.

Broome grew rich on pearl shell, worked by Japanese, Chinese, Malay and Aboriginal divers, and that mix still shows in its cemeteries, shops and food. Days drift between Chinatown, red rocks and the long white sweep of Cable Beach.

Good to know
- Staircase to the Moon needs a full moon and a very low tide together; the visitor centre publishes the dates.
- Box jellyfish are in the water from about November to May, so swim at the patrolled part of Cable Beach.
- Halal meat is hard to find in Broome. Seafood is the easy option, and Perth is the place to stock up.
