A west-coast town best known for Daecheon Beach and the Boryeong Mud Festival, when the seafront turns into a giant mud fight every July. The rest of the year it's a quieter place for sea air, sunsets and shellfish grills.

Good to know

  • Stay by Daecheon Beach; the bus terminal and station are a few kilometres inland.
  • Seafood and vegetable dishes are the easiest pork-free choices; 'gogi ppae-juseyo' asks for no meat.
