Rainy botanical-garden city on the way up to cool Puncak.
- Best time
- It rains most afternoons, even in the drier months from about June to September. Go in the morning, and avoid weekends if you're heading up to Puncak.
- How long
- 1–2 days, or a day trip from Jakarta
- Getting there
- Fly KL to Jakarta, about 2 hours. From central Jakarta, the KRL commuter train to Bogor takes about 1–1.5 hours; by road it depends on the traffic.

A hill city about 50 km south of Jakarta, known for its 200-year-old botanical garden and its rain. The Dutch made it their summer capital, the presidential palace still sits beside the gardens, and it's the gateway up to the tea estates of Puncak.

Good to know
- Bring an umbrella whatever the forecast.
- Weekend traffic up to Puncak is notorious, and police switch the road to one-way at peak times. Leave early.
