batu ferringhi
Beach strip with parasailing by day and a night market after dark.
- Best time
- December to March is usually driest. Weekends and school holidays get busy, and the beach is nicest in the late afternoon once the heat eases.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- About 4 hours' drive from KL to Penang, then 30–40 minutes along the coast road from George Town by car, Grab or Rapid Penang bus. Flights from KL to Penang take about an hour, and the airport is about an hour's drive from the beach.

Penang's main beach strip, about 11 km north-west of George Town on the island's north coast. Big resort hotels line a 4 km stretch of sand, there are water sports by day, and the night market and seafood restaurants take over after dark.

Good to know
- Jellyfish turn up at times. Ask your hotel or look for warning signs before swimming.
- Check the life jackets and safety gear before you go out on any water sport.
- The coast road is narrow and slow on weekend evenings, so allow extra time to get back to town.
