Huge paper festival floats, apple snacks and seafood bowls beside Mutsu Bay.

- May–June and September–October are pleasant. Early August brings the Nebuta festival and big crowds. Winter is very snowy; Aomori is one of the snowiest cities in the world.

- Fly from KL to Tokyo (about 7 hours). The Tohoku Shinkansen reaches Shin-Aomori in about 3 hours, then it's one stop on a local train into the city. You can also fly from Tokyo to Aomori in about 1.5 hours. Japan is an hour ahead of KL.

A port city at the top of Honshu, known for the giant glowing floats of the Nebuta festival, apples and seafood. The station, fish market and festival museum are all a short walk from each other.
