Amman spreads over hills of pale stone, with a Roman theatre in the middle of downtown and temple columns on the Citadel above. Between the sights it's a city for falafel, market wandering and late-night kunafa.

Good to know

  • Food is halal as standard. The Jordan Pass covers the Citadel, the Roman Theatre, Jerash and Petra, so it pays to buy one before you arrive.
  • Fighting in the region closed Jordanian and Gulf airspace at times in 2026, so a flexible ticket and insurance that covers disruption are worth having.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
