amboseli national park
Elephant families in marshes with Mount Kilimanjaro rising beyond the plains.
- Best time
- June–October and January–February are the drier times for game drives. April–May can flood the tracks; green-season visits still have plenty of wildlife but need flexible plans.
- How long
- 2–3 nights
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Nairobi, usually via Addis Ababa, Dubai or Doha, about 13–17 hours all in. Amboseli is about 4–5 hours by road, or under an hour by small plane from Wilson airport.

Amboseli is a smaller park famous for big elephant herds with Kilimanjaro behind them. The mountain is across the border in Tanzania and often shows itself only briefly at dawn before the cloud builds.
