- April–May and October–November are best for cycling and walking. July–August is hot and busy, and winter is cold, wet and sometimes snowy.

- Fly from KL to Osaka Kansai (about 6.5 hours). From Kyoto, the Hashidate limited express reaches Amanohashidate in about 2 hours. Japan is an hour ahead of KL.

A sandbar about 3.5 km long, covered in pine trees, stretching across a bay on the Sea of Japan coast. It's one of Japan's three classic views. Walk or cycle across it, then go up the hills at either end to look back.
