Al Ain is the UAE's garden city, an inland oasis of date palms, mudbrick forts and old falaj water channels on the border with Oman. Jebel Hafeet rises behind it, and it feels a world away from the towers on the coast.

Good to know

  • Food is halal as standard. The sights are spread out, so hire a car or a driver for the day, and drive up Jebel Hafeet in daylight.
  • Fighting involving Iran closed Gulf airspace several times in 2026, cancelling flights at short notice, so a flexible ticket and insurance that covers disruption are worth having.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
