acadia national park

Granite shores, pine-covered hills, carriage roads and lobster meals around Bar Harbor.

Best time
June–October are best, with July–August busiest and autumn colour peaking in early-to-mid October. Winter brings ice, closed roads and few services.
How long
2–3 days
Getting there
Fly to Boston with one stop, usually via Tokyo, Seoul or Hong Kong, about 21–25 hours all in. Bar Harbor is then about 5 hours by car, or take a short flight to Bangor, an hour from the park. Maine is 12 hours behind KL, 13 from November to early March. Malaysians need a US B1/B2 visitor visa, usually with an interview at the embassy in KL; ESTA isn't open to Malaysian passports.

Acadia packs pink granite shores, pine forest and rounded little mountains onto Mount Desert Island on the Maine coast. Bar Harbor makes an easy base for shore walks, car-free carriage roads and lobster dinners.

Good to know

  • Non-US residents pay an extra per-person fee at Acadia and ten other busy national parks, so on a multi-park trip the non-resident annual pass can work out cheaper.
  • The free Island Explorer bus runs from late June to mid-October and saves hunting for parking.
  • Halal is hard to find around Bar Harbor, so bring supplies from Boston; New England chowder usually has salt pork in it.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
