Places to visit in Uzbekistan

Uzbekistan is the Silk Road trip: Samarkand for blue-tiled madrasas and tombs, Bukhara for brick minarets and covered trading domes, and Khiva for a walled town of sand-coloured lanes. Tashkent, where you land, has ornate metro stations and plov from giant cauldrons. Uzbekistan Airways flies direct from KL to Tashkent in about eight hours, and fast trains run on to Samarkand and Bukhara.
