ta prohm

The Tomb Raider temple, with giant tree roots swallowing its walls.

Best time
November to February is cooler and dry. The rainy season, from about June to October, makes the moss and trees their greenest. Whatever the month, come early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the tour groups.
How long
1–2 hours (half a day with the nearby temples)
Getting there
Fly KL to Siem Reap, about 2 hours. Ta Prohm is about 20–30 minutes from town by tuk-tuk, on the park's Small Circuit.

Ta Prohm (Khmer: ប្រាសាទតាព្រហ្ម, pronunciation: prasat taprohm) is the modern name of the temple at Angkor, Siem Reap Province, Cambodia, built in the Bayon style largely in the late 12th and early 1

A late-12th-century Buddhist monastery built by King Jayavarman VII in honour of his mother, about a kilometre east of Angkor Thom. Unlike most of Angkor, it was left largely as the jungle found it, with huge silk-cotton and strangler fig trees growing out of the collapsing galleries. Its role in Lara Croft: Tomb Raider made it one of the most photographed temples in the park.

Good to know

  • You need an Angkor pass, bought at the official ticket centre or online.
  • Stay on the walkways and off the fallen stones. Restoration work is ongoing and some areas are roped off.
  • Cover shoulders and knees, as at all the Angkor temples.
