Any time of year. Mornings for the museum, lunch at the salai stalls, and the riverside once the afternoon cools. The lemang stalls are at their busiest before Hari Raya.

About 1–1.5 hours' drive from KL on the North–South Expressway; leave at the Pedas–Linggi exit. The KTM Komuter from KL Sentral also stops at Rembau, though it's a long ride.

Rembau is one of Negeri Sembilan's four old luak, where Adat Perpatih still shapes kampung life, and it's where Raja Melewar was installed as the state's first Yamtuan Besar in 1773. Make it a heritage-and-lunch day: his replica palace and tomb at Astana Raja, smoked meat at Kundor and lemang at Kendong, with Gunung Datuk on the skyline.

Good to know

  • Muzium Rembau and Raja Melewar's tomb are at Astana Raja, about 10 km south-east of town, so pin them before you set off.
