redang in 3 days, 2 nights
A classic resort-package trip: an early flight and boat to Pasir Panjang, two days of snorkelling and swimming in the marine park, and a last swim before the boat back. Go between March and October, when the resorts are open.
Day 1 Over to Redang
- Morning
- Fly from KL to Kuala Terengganu, about an hour, and have nasi dagang for breakfast in town. Then head to the Merang jetty, about 40 minutes north, for the boat, about an hour.
- Lunch
- Check in on Pasir Panjang and have lunch at the resort. Most packages include meals.
- Afternoon
- Your first snorkelling trip around the marine park islands, for reef fish, coral and often turtles.
- Evening
- Sunset on Pasir Panjang, then dinner at the resort.
Day 2 Snorkel and swim
- Morning
- Kayak along the shore early, before the wind picks up. Then snorkel just off Pasir Panjang.
- Lunch
- Lunch at the resort.
- Afternoon
- A second snorkelling trip, or a fun dive with one of the island's dive centres.
- Evening
- Dinner, then sit out on the beach. With so little light around, the stars are easy to see.
Day 3 Back to the mainland
- Morning
- A last swim before breakfast, then pack up.
- Lunch
- Early lunch at the resort, then the boat back to the jetty.
- Afternoon
- Buy keropok lekor, chewy fish sausage fried and dipped in chilli sauce, from a stall on the way to the airport. Then fly home, about an hour.
Good to know
- Book early for school holidays and long weekends, when packages sell out. Check your package's boat times before you book flights.
- It's a marine park. Don't touch or stand on coral, don't feed the fish, and pack reef-safe sunscreen.
- Bring enough cash, as facilities on the island are limited.
