puerto galera
Manila's weekend beach and dive escape, a road-and-ferry ride away.
- Best time
- November to May is drier and calmer. The southwest monsoon, from about June to September, brings rain and rough crossings. Weekends and Holy Week are packed with Manila crowds.
- How long
- 2–3 days
- Getting there
- Fly KL to Manila (about 4 hours). From Manila it's about 2–3 hours by road to Batangas Port, then about an hour by ferry or outrigger boat to Puerto Galera's beaches.

A beach and diving town on the north coast of Mindoro, close enough to Manila for a weekend. It sits on the Verde Island Passage, often called one of the world's richest marine areas, so the snorkelling and diving are very good. White Beach is the lively one and Sabang is the dive hub, while the beaches further west are quieter.
Things to do
- White BeachThe busiest stretch of sand, with bars, restaurants and watersports.Map ↗
- SabangThe dive centre of town, with dozens of dive shops and a busy night scene.Map ↗
- Small and Big La LagunaTwo small beaches near Sabang with good snorkelling straight off the sand.Map ↗
- Tamaraw FallsA roadside waterfall inland, with pools at the bottom.Map ↗
- Talipanan BeachA quieter, longer beach west of White Beach, backed by green hills.Map ↗
Good to know
- Expect to pay an environmental fee on arrival at the pier.
- Crossings get cancelled in bad weather, especially in the monsoon. Leave some slack before your flight home.
- Sabang's nightlife has a red-light side. Families usually prefer White Beach or Talipanan.
