A riverside city in lower northern Thailand, home to Phra Buddha Chinnarat, one of the most revered Buddha images in the country. It's also a handy base for Sukhothai, about an hour away. Raft houses line the Nan River, and the night market has a famous 'flying' vegetable act.

Good to know

  • Dress modestly at Wat Yai: cover shoulders and knees.
  • Wat Yai gets very busy on weekends and holidays, so go early.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
