The drier spells, usually February and June to August, are easiest on the trails. Wetter months bring mud and leeches.

≈ 71 km from KL, as the crow flies

A lowland rainforest reserve near Simpang Pertang, home to FRIM's oldest field station since 1970. In its 50-hectare research plot, around 340,000 trees of some 800 species have been tagged and counted since the 1980s. It's a research forest, not a park, so it suits nature groups who arrange a visit with FRIM first.

Makan

  2. Masak lemak cili apiRice and lauk at the Malay stalls in Simpang Pertang or Kuala Pilah on the way back.Map ↗

Things to do

  1. The nature trailA 2 km trail under the tall dipterocarp canopy, walked with station staff.Map ↗
  2. The canopy walkwayTowers and hanging bridges up to about 30 metres above the forest floor, built for research. Ask FRIM whether your group can go up.Map ↗
  3. The arboretumA 2-hectare tree collection by the station, a good introduction to the forest's species.Map ↗

Good to know

  • Contact FRIM's Pasoh station well ahead. Visits are by arrangement, mostly for schools, universities and nature groups, and walk-ins aren't let in.
  • Gua Pelangi, a cave in the same reserve with prehistoric finds, needs a separate permit from the Negeri Sembilan forestry department.
  • Wear covered shoes and leech socks.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
