Best time
May–October are best, when the boats run and the river paths are green; summer weekends are crowded. Winter is cold, with ice and frozen spray along the gorge, and few people.

Getting there
Fly to Toronto with one stop, usually via Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul or Tokyo, about 20–24 hours all in. Niagara Falls is about 1.5 hours from Toronto by car, or about 2 hours by GO train or bus. It's 12 hours behind KL, 13 from November to early March. Malaysians need a Canadian visitor visa, or just an eTA if flying in with a valid US visa or a Canadian visa held in the last 10 years.

From the Canadian side, the Horseshoe Falls are right in front of you, close enough for the spray to soak the path. The town is all neon and wax museums, but the falls, lit up in colour after dark, justify an overnight stay.

Good to know

  • Stay on the Canadian side unless you have a US visa; walking across the Rainbow Bridge counts as entering the US.
  • Halal choice in Niagara Falls itself is small, mostly shawarma and Indian places; Toronto and Mississauga have far more.
