Wood-fired pizza, noisy old lanes and Roman streets buried by Vesuvius just outside town.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are warm and good for walking. July–August is hot, especially at Pompeii, where there's little shade; winter is mild but rainier.
- How long
- 3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Naples, usually via Istanbul or Dubai, about 16–18 hours all in. The Alibus reaches the central station in about 20 minutes. You can also fly to Rome and take the fast train, about 1 hour 10 minutes. Italy is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Loud, crowded and full of life, Naples crams churches, washing lines, scooters and pizza ovens into the same narrow streets. It's also the base for Pompeii, Herculaneum and the islands across the bay.

Good to know
- Halal food is easiest around Piazza Garibaldi by the central station, mostly South Asian and North African.
- Pompeii caps its daily visitors and sells named tickets, so book ahead on the official site and get off at Pompei Scavi station for the main entrance.
