Muscat stretches along a thin strip between bare mountains and the sea, with low white buildings instead of towers. Mutrah's souk smells of frankincense, and the Corniche is made for a slow evening walk.

Good to know
- At the Grand Mosque, cover arms and legs; women also need a headscarf.
- Food is halal as standard; alcohol is served only in hotels and licensed restaurants.
- Muscat is long and spread out, so pair Mutrah with Old Muscat and do the Grand Mosque on its own.
