Johor's royal town sits at the mouth of the Muar River, and most people come to eat. Satay is a breakfast dish here, mee bandung is lunch, and nobody leaves without a bag of otak-otak. In between there's a riverside park and streets of pre-war shophouses.

Good to know

  • Park once in the old town and walk between food stops; the centre jams up at meal times.
  • Bring a cooler bag for the otak-otak.
