Small coves, stone mountain villages and Palma's cathedral above the waterfront.
- Best time
- May–June and September–October are warm enough to swim and cool enough to walk. July–August are hot and packed; winter is mild and quiet, with almond blossom in February, though many hotels close.
- How long
- 4–6 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Barcelona or Madrid, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, then about an hour on to Palma. Spain is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Mallorca is much more than beach resorts. Palma has a golden Gothic cathedral above the waterfront, the Tramuntana mountains hide stone villages, and the east coast has small, clear coves.

- EnsaimadaThe island's spiral pastry dusted with sugar. It's traditionally made with pork lard, so it isn't one for halal eaters.Map ↗
Things to do
- Palma CathedralLa Seu, a Gothic cathedral right above the sea, with a canopy by Gaudí and rose windows that throw coloured light inside.Map ↗
- Sóller trainA wooden train from 1912 winds through the mountains from Palma to Sóller, and an old tram carries on to the port.Map ↗
- ValldemossaA stone village in the Tramuntana, where Chopin spent a winter in the old monastery.Map ↗

Good to know
- Pick one or two bases rather than crossing the island every day; the mountain roads are slow.
- Halal food is easiest in Palma, which has a few Moroccan and kebab places; in the villages, fish and tumbet are the way to go.
