About 1 hour's drive north of KL. The KTM Komuter also runs to Kuala Kubu Bharu station, but you'll want a car for the dam, the waterfall and the hills.

Hulu Selangor's quiet district town was rebuilt on higher ground in the 1920s after floods destroyed the old Kuala Kubu, and it's often called Asia's first garden town. These days it's a base for paragliding, river trips and the waterfall at Chiling, and the last stop before the road up to Fraser's Hill.

Good to know

  • Chiling is only open on some days and closes after heavy rain. Check it's open before you go, and never cross the river when the water is rising.
  • Fraser's Hill is about an hour up the winding road if you want cooler air afterwards.
