kenong rimba park

Limestone caves, a riverside jungle camp and night walks, a boat ride from Kuala Lipis.

Best time
March to October. From about November to January the river rises and trips can be called off. Early mornings are best for birds and for the view from Batu Tinggi.
How long
2–3 days
Getting there
About 3 hours' drive from KL via Bentong and Raub to Kuala Lipis. From town, the camp's transfer takes you to the jetty at Tanjung Kiara for a 20-minute boat ride up the Kenong River. Kuala Lipis is on the KTM East Coast Line, but trains arrive at awkward hours.

≈ 128 km from KL, as the crow flies

A 128 km² block of forest and limestone east of Kuala Lipis, on the edge of Taman Negara and far quieter. Trips run from a riverside camp in the southern half: boat in, sleep in a tent or chalet, and spend the days walking to caves where fig roots hang through the roofs. The northern half, around Gunung Kesong, has been closed since wild elephants wrecked its chalets.

Good to know

  • Every visitor goes with a registered guide, who also registers you at the forest office in Kuala Lipis. Book ahead; trips usually need a minimum group size.
  • Bring leech socks, insect repellent, a headlamp and dry bags, and don't count on phone signal.

Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
