Sleepy seaside town by the Cambodian border, with ferries to Phu Quoc.

Best time
December to April is dry with calm seas. The rainy season from May to November can bring rough water, and ferries are sometimes cancelled.
How long
1–2 days
Getting there
Fly from KL to Phu Quoc (under 2 hours) and take a fast boat across (about 1.5 hours), or fly to Ho Chi Minh City and go by bus or car for about 7 hours. Kampot and Kep in Cambodia are a short drive over the border.

A quiet riverside town on the Gulf of Thailand, right by the Cambodian border. Most people pass through on the way to Phu Quoc or Cambodia, but it's worth a night for its lagoon, cave temples and seafood.
