grindelwald
Eiger views from the village, a cliff walk and mountain lakes above the cow pastures.
- Best time
- June–September is best for walking and lift rides, though high paths can keep snow into June, and July–August is busiest. January–March is ski season; November is quiet, with many lifts shut for maintenance.
- How long
- 3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Zurich, usually via Singapore, Dubai or Istanbul, about 15–17 hours all in. The train from Zurich airport takes about 3 hours, changing at Interlaken Ost. Switzerland is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Grindelwald sits right under the north face of the Eiger, which fills the view from most balconies. Gondolas climb to cliff walks, lakes and ridge paths, and trains link it to the rest of the Jungfrau region.

Things to do
- First Cliff WalkA metal walkway bolted to the rock face at the top of the First gondola, with a platform jutting out over the drop.Map ↗
- BachalpseeAbout an hour's walk from First to a lake that mirrors the snowy peaks, once the path is clear of snow.Map ↗
- JungfraujochThe Eiger Express gondola and the Jungfrau railway climb to Europe's highest railway station, at 3,454 metres, above the Aletsch Glacier.Map ↗
- MännlichenA gondola up to a ridge with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau lined up opposite; the walk on to Kleine Scheidegg is an easy classic.Map ↗
Good to know
- Grindelwald Terminal, one stop before the village, is where the Eiger Express and the Männlichen gondola leave from.
- Interlaken, about 35 minutes away by train, has plenty of halal Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants; in the village and up the mountain, choice is thin.
