Medieval walls, narrow Jewish-quarter lanes and colourful houses above the Onyar.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are best for walking the walls. In May, the Temps de Flors festival fills the old town with flowers and crowds; July–August are hot.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop to Barcelona, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul (about 16–18 hours all in). Fast trains from Barcelona Sants reach Girona in about 40 minutes. Spain is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Girona is a small Catalan city of medieval walls, steep stone stairways and coloured houses hanging over the Onyar river. It's an easy trip from Barcelona, and calmer once the day-trippers leave.

Good to know
- Locals say if you kiss the bottom of the lioness statue near Sant Feliu church, you'll come back to Girona.
- Halal meat is limited in Girona, so bring lunch from Barcelona's El Raval or stick to vegetable dishes like escalivada.
