Thousands of free-flying butterflies outdoors and two floors of bugs indoors at Teluk Bahang.
- Best time
- Any time of year. Butterflies are busiest when the sun is out, so a bright morning is best, before the heat and the afternoon showers. If it rains, spend longer in the Cocoon.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 4 hours' drive from KL to Penang, then about 45 minutes from George Town along the north coast road past Batu Ferringhi. Rapid Penang bus 101 from George Town runs past the gate. Flights from KL to Penang take about an hour.

This is the old Penang Butterfly Farm, open since 1986 and rebuilt as Entopia. Outside, around 15,000 butterflies fly free among ponds, caves and waterfalls; inside, the Cocoon has two floors of insects, reptiles and hands-on displays. An easy half-day with kids, on the way to the national park.

Good to know
- Buy tickets online to skip the queue, and keep yours: it lets you leave and come back the same day.
- Natureland is warm and humid even on cloudy days. Wear light clothes, bring water, and let the butterflies land on you rather than touching their wings.
