chow kit
KL's biggest wet market, nasi Padang lunches and old shophouses off Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
- Best time
- Any time of year, in the morning, when the market is in full swing and the pavements are cooler. Afternoons are hot, with frequent storms.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- Take the KL Monorail to Chow Kit; the market is a few minutes' walk east of the station. Don't drive in. The roads around the market are jammed and parking is scarce.

Chow Kit is KL's market quarter. Bazaar Baru Chow Kit is the city's biggest wet market, with fish, herbs, fruit and Indonesian food stalls packed into the lanes behind Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman. Come for breakfast, walk the market and stay for a nasi Padang lunch.

Good to know
- Wear shoes with grip; the wet-market floors are slippery.
- Ask before photographing traders, and keep your phone and bag close in the crowds.
