bukit kodiang
A 180 m limestone hill with near-vertical ladders and wide views over Kedah's paddy fields.
- Best time
- December to March is the dry season in northern Kedah. Skip it after rain, when the rock and ladders turn slippery, and start early, as the top is exposed to the sun.
- How long
- Half a day
- Getting there
- About 5 hours' drive from KL on the North–South Expressway; leave at Jitra and it's about 20 minutes north-west to Kodiang. From Alor Setar, allow about 40 minutes. Kodiang also has a KTM Komuter station on the line to Padang Besar.

Bukit Kodiang, which locals call Bukit Mok Cun, is a 180 m limestone hill rising straight out of the paddy fields near the Perlis border. It's short, about 1 km and 45 minutes to the top, but steep, with near-vertical ladders at the end, and the reward is rice fields in every direction. For the way down, a local outfit runs Dropzone, a controlled 40 m descent off the summit.

Good to know
- Go with someone who knows the route. In October 2024 three hikers got lost here and one was hurt, and firefighters and mountain guides had to bring them down.
- Wear gloves and shoes with grip for the rock and ladders, and leave small kids and anyone nervous of heights at the bottom.
- Kedah's weekend is Friday and Saturday, so Fridays are as busy as Saturdays.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
