Thermal pools, grand Danube views and market lunches between Buda's hills and Pest's streets.
- Best time
- April–June and September–October are best for walking. July–August can be hot and crowded; in winter, steaming outdoor pools and Christmas markets make up for the short, cold days.
- How long
- 3–4 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop, usually via Dubai, Doha or Istanbul, about 15–17 hours all in. The 100E airport bus reaches central Pest in about 40 minutes. Hungary is 6 hours behind KL in summer and 7 in winter.

Budapest is two cities joined by bridges: hilly Buda with its castle, and flat, busy Pest with the parliament and the cafés. Underneath both are hot springs, which feed the city's grand old bathhouses.

Good to know
- The 100E airport bus needs its own ticket; a regular city ticket isn't valid.
- Bring a swimsuit, towel and flip-flops for the baths. Gellért is closed for a long renovation, probably until 2028 or later.
- Halal döner and Turkish and Middle Eastern restaurants are easy to find in central Pest; traditional Hungarian kitchens use a lot of pork fat.
