Bremen is an old Hanseatic trading city with one of Germany's finest market squares: a Gothic town hall, a giant stone knight and the bronze Town Musicians from the Grimms' fairy tale. The Weser riverfront is a relaxed place to end the day.

Good to know
- Walk the Schnoor in the morning, before tour groups fill the narrow lanes.
- Turkish kebab shops are the easiest halal option; old-town taverns lean on pork.
