boryeong
A long sandy beach, shellfish grills and summer's famously messy mud festival.
- Best time
- May–June and September–October for beach walks without the crowds. The mud festival runs for about two weeks in July: busy, fun and often rainy. Winter is cold and windy.
- How long
- 1–2 days
- Getting there
- Fly from KL to Seoul Incheon (about 6.5 hours). Buses from Seoul reach Boryeong in about 2.5 hours, or take the train from Yongsan to Daecheon Station. The beach is about 15 minutes away by bus or taxi. Korea is an hour ahead of KL.

A west-coast town best known for Daecheon Beach and the Boryeong Mud Festival, when the seafront turns into a giant mud fight every July. The rest of the year it's a quieter place for sea air, sunsets and shellfish grills.

Good to know
- Stay by Daecheon Beach; the bus terminal and station are a few kilometres inland.
- Seafood and vegetable dishes are the easiest pork-free choices; 'gogi ppae-juseyo' asks for no meat.
