batumi
Black Sea promenades, a hillside botanical garden and egg-topped Adjarian cheese bread.
- Best time
- June and September are warm for the beach without the July–August crowds and humidity. Batumi is Georgia's wettest city, with heavy rain from autumn through winter.
- How long
- 3 days
- Getting there
- Fly with one stop via Istanbul straight to Batumi (about 2 hours from Istanbul), or via Dubai or Doha to Tbilisi and then about 5 hours by train. Georgia is 4 hours behind KL.

Batumi is Georgia's Black Sea city, with a long seafront and a skyline of old façades and odd glass towers. The beach is pebbly, the pace is easy, and the local cheese bread is practically a meal for two.

Good to know
- Adjara has a large Muslim community, so halal food is easier here than anywhere else in Georgia, especially around Orta Jame and in the Turkish restaurants.
- The beach is all pebbles, so pack water shoes.
- Book the Tbilisi train ahead in summer, when half of Georgia heads for the coast.
