- October–April is milder, good for beaches and coastal walks. June–August is wet and windy, but southern right and humpback whales come into King George Sound from about June to October.

- Fly direct to Perth in just over 5 hours, then take a short connecting flight (about 1 hour) or drive about 4.5–5 hours south. Western Australia is on the same time as KL.

Albany is Western Australia's oldest European settlement, a town of old stone buildings on a huge natural harbour. Just outside town, granite headlands take the full force of the Southern Ocean, and sheltered bays hide some of the state's clearest water.

- Big waves wash over the coastal rocks without warning, so stay on the platforms and paths.
