Abu Dhabi is the UAE's capital, spread across islands and calmer than Dubai. It has the country's grandest mosque, a branch of the Louvre and long beaches, so it's worth a stay of its own.

Good to know
- Food is halal as standard. The Grand Mosque has a dress code: long, loose clothes, and headscarves for women.
- Fighting involving Iran closed Gulf airspace several times in 2026, cancelling flights at short notice, so a flexible ticket and insurance that covers disruption are worth having.
Last checked October 2026. Things change, so check opening times, fees and transport before you go.
